Affiliate Disclosure
Where affiliate links appear on this site, where they do not, and how they are marked — in line with FTC guidelines.
Last updated: September 14, 2026
This disclosure is provided in accordance with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s guidelines on endorsements and affiliate marketing (16 CFR Part 255).
Where affiliate links appear
Only in house plan reviews. Each review contains one labelled link — “Buy This Plan” — to the plan’s listing on Architectural Designs, through the CJ Affiliate network. If you purchase a plan after clicking that link, The Layered Homes may earn a commission. The price you pay is the same either way.
Where they do not appear
Transformation studies, decor cost guides and essays name products, brands and suppliers because that is what makes the writing useful — not because we are paid to name them. Those mentions are not affiliate links and we receive nothing when you buy from them. If that ever changes for a specific article, the link will be labelled and this page updated.
How it affects what we write
It does not. A plan is reviewed on its layout, its livability and its cost to build, and the review reads the same whether you click the link or not. Plans we would not recommend are reviewed as such, purchase link and all. Our editorial policy sets out the full standard.
How links are marked
Affiliate links carry rel="sponsored" in the page code, open in a new tab, and are styled as a distinct button so they are never mistaken for editorial links.
Advertising
Separately from affiliate links, the site shows display advertising served by Google AdSense and, where enabled, partners such as Mediavine. Ad placements are labelled “Advertisement”. Cookies used for advertising and how to opt out are described in the privacy policy.
