Privacy Policy
What this site collects when you read it, which third parties are involved, how long we keep data, and the rights you have over it.
Last updated: September 14, 2026
The Layered Homes (thelayeredhomes.com) is an independent interior-design publication written and edited by Johan Martez, Elise Marchetti and Rowan Whitaker from Charleston, South Carolina, and published by NEXTDIGIVERS LLC. This policy explains, plainly, what information the site collects when you read it, which third parties are involved, how long we keep data, and what rights you have over it.
The short version: no account is needed to read anything, we never sell personal data, and the only personal information we hold is what you choose to send us — a comment, a contact message, or a newsletter address. The site is funded by advertising and a small number of labelled affiliate links, both described below.
Who runs this site
The Layered Homes is published by NEXTDIGIVERS LLC (30 N Gould St STE R, Sheridan, WY 82801, United States). Editorial content is produced under the direction of the editor credited on each page; the NEXTDIGIVERS LLC team handles publishing, site maintenance and the social channels. Where this policy says “we”, it refers to the publisher; “you” is the reader.

What information this site collects
Information you give us
- Comments — the name and email address you enter, the comment text, and (for spam prevention) your IP address and browser user-agent. Your name and comment are published after moderation; your email address is never published.
- Contact form and email — your name, email address, subject, department and message, plus the time it was sent and the IP address of the request. Messages are stored in our editorial inbox so we can reply and keep a record of the conversation.
- Newsletter — your email address and the date you subscribed. Every email carries an unsubscribe link; you can also write to us to be removed.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs — the site is served by Cloudflare. Cloudflare records standard request data (IP address, requested URL, referrer, user-agent, timestamps) to deliver pages, defend against abuse and produce aggregate traffic statistics. We do not use these logs to identify individual readers.
- Analytics — we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles are read and how readers arrive. Google Analytics sets cookies (for example
_ga) and processes your IP address in a truncated form. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. - Preferences — nothing personal is stored in your browser by our own code beyond a session cookie for editors who sign in to manage the site.
Cookies
A cookie is a small text file placed in your browser. This site uses:
- A consent cookie (
tlh_consent, set by this site, 180 days) that remembers the privacy choice you made in the cookie banner or the footer’s “Cookie preferences” link. - Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) to measure readership in aggregate.
- Advertising cookies set by our advertising partners (see the next section) to show ads that are relevant to you and to measure them.
- Affiliate cookies set by CJ Affiliate when you click a labelled “Buy This Plan” link, so that a purchase can be attributed to this site.
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings; the site keeps working without them.
Advertising and third-party vendors
We use Google AdSense and may work with other advertising partners such as Mediavine or Ezoic. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You may opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info and, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
- Google’s own privacy practices are described at How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Advertising never influences what we write; see our editorial policy. The full list of cookies, who sets them and how long they last is in the cookie policy.
Your privacy choices
What is stored on your device is your decision, and you can change it at any time from the Cookie preferences link in the footer of every page.
If you are in Europe or the United Kingdom
Readers in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked before anything beyond the strictly necessary category is set. Until you choose, advertising and analytics storage remain switched off. This is implemented with Google Consent Mode v2, which carries your decision to Google and its advertising partners: with consent denied, no advertising identifier is read or written, and measurement falls back to anonymous, cookieless signals. Withdrawing consent later is as simple as giving it, and takes effect immediately.
Global Privacy Control
This site honours the Global Privacy Control signal. If your browser or an extension sends it, advertising storage and any sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising are switched off automatically, before you interact with the page at all. In California and several other states this signal is treated as a legally binding opt-out request.
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
We do not sell personal information for money. Under California law, and under similar laws in other states, allowing an advertising partner to set a cookie for personalised advertising can still count as “selling” or “sharing”. To stop it, use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link in the footer of any page, or send the Global Privacy Control signal. Neither requires an account, and neither changes what you can read on the site.
Affiliate links
House plan reviews contain a labelled link to buy the plan from Architectural Designs through the CJ Affiliate network. If you buy after clicking, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links use rel="sponsored" and are the only monetised links in editorial text. Full details are in our affiliate disclosure.
Third-party services used on this site
- Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, security and email routing. Content, comments and contact messages are stored in Cloudflare’s D1 and R2 services in the United States.
- Google Analytics 4 — readership statistics.
- Google AdSense (and, where enabled, Mediavine or Ezoic) — advertising.
- CJ Affiliate / Architectural Designs — affiliate tracking on plan purchase links.
- Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube — share buttons open those services in a new tab; they set cookies only if you use them.
Embedded content from other sites
Articles may embed videos or maps from other websites (for example YouTube). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that site: it may collect data about you, use cookies and track your interaction with the embed, especially if you are logged in to that service.
How long data is kept
- Comments and their metadata: for as long as the article is published, so follow-up comments stay in context. You can ask us to remove a comment at any time.
- Contact messages: up to 24 months, then deleted unless the conversation is ongoing.
- Newsletter addresses: until you unsubscribe.
- Analytics: Google Analytics retains event data for 14 months.
Your rights over your data
Wherever you live, you can ask us what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to how it is used. Readers in the EU/UK have these rights under the GDPR; California readers have equivalent rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and the right to delete — we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising in the CCPA sense beyond the advertising cookies described above, which you can decline. Write to privacy@thelayeredhomes.com; we answer within 30 days and never charge for a request.
Children’s privacy
This site is written for adults planning and styling their homes and is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 where local law sets that age). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children; if you believe a child has sent us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Data security
All traffic to the site is encrypted (HTTPS). Editorial access is protected by individual accounts, strong passwords and login throttling. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top of the page. Material changes (a new advertising partner, a new kind of data) are also noted in the site’s newsletter.
